  • 8–9 medium starchy potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 head garlic
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • Nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded GruyΓ¨re or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
  2. Roast the garlic wrapped in foil for about 30 minutes until soft and golden.
  3. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  4. Thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline slicer for uniformity.
  5. Layer the potato slices upright in the baking dish.
  6. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, butter, half of the parmesan, thyme, nutmeg, salt, and pepper over medium heat until mixed well.
  7. Squeeze roasted garlic into a paste and stir into the cream mixture.
  8. Pour the creamy mixture over the layered potatoes and cover with foil.
  9. Bake covered for 40 minutes, then remove foil and top with remaining cheeses.
  10. Bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
