Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and salt until combined.
  2. Add the diced butter and cut it into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter until crumbly with pea-sized chunks.
  3. Stir in pumpkin purรฉe, buttermilk (or milk), and vanilla extract gently until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and shape into an 8-inch circle; cut into 8 wedges.
  5. Place scones on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 425ยฐF and brush scone tops lightly with buttermilk before baking for 13โ€“15 minutes until golden.
  7. For the glaze: whisk together powdered sugar, buttermilk (or milk), and vanilla extract until smooth; drizzle over cooled scones.
