Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp red gel food coloring
  • 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • Optional toppings: demerara sugar, pumpkin spice, cinnamon extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare your work area by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and spraying it with baking spray.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, water, light corn syrup, and red gel food coloring. Heat over high until boiling.
  3. Insert a candy thermometer into the pot and boil until it reaches 300ΒΊF to 310ΒΊF (about 20 minutes).
  4. While the syrup heats, wash and dry your apples thoroughly. Insert sticks firmly into each apple.
  5. Once the sugar mixture is ready, remove from heat and tilt the pot slightly. Roll each apple in the hot syrup until fully coated, letting excess syrup drip off before placing on parchment paper.
  6. Allow your candy apples to set for about 10 minutes before serving.
